This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the family Axymyiidae, such as Axymyia furcata, exhibit a slender, elongated body form characteristic of many nematoceran flies.[1] The wings are typically clear or lightly tinted, with distinct venation patterns visible upon close inspection. The thorax is robust, and the legs are relatively long and thin, supporting their overall delicate appearance.[1]
Axymyiidae is a small family of flies within the order Diptera.[2] Recent taxonomic work has expanded the understanding of this group, including the description of the genus Plesioaxymyia from western North America.[3] Phylogenetic analyses suggest that Plesioaxymyia serves as the sister group to all other known genera within the family.[3]
