This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Axoniderma (Cladorhizidae) in imagery is typically represented as a three-dimensional, sponge-like structure with radiating/filamentous features consistent with the genus’ characteristic “crinorhizoid parasol” habit described in taxonomic treatments.
Species of Axoniderma are members of the carnivorous sponge family Cladorhizidae. Within Cladorhizidae, Axoniderma is diagnosed by a combination of anchorate anisochelae and a crinorhizoid “parasol” morphology (i.e., a radiating filament/crinorhizoid arrangement forming a parasol-like aspect in typical descriptions).
Axoniderma is treated as a distinct genus within Cladorhizidae, with type species Axoniderma mirabilis (Ridley & Dendy, 1886).
