Visual Description
Axona chalcopyga is a hoverfly characterized by a striking metallic appearance. Observations of specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a body with a distinct, iridescent blue-green metallic sheen across the thorax and the anterior portion of the abdomen.[1] The posterior part of the abdomen exhibits a contrasting, vibrant orange or reddish-brown coloration.[1] The eyes are large and dark, typical of many Syrphidae, and the wings are translucent with a brownish tint.[1]
