Axinyssa is an accepted genus name (authorship: Lendenfeld, 1897) in the family Halichondriidae (order Suberitida), as reflected by GBIF’s accepted taxonomic match. [2]
Secondary-metabolite studies of Axinyssa spp. from shallow coral-reef habitats have reported nitrogenous bisabolene-type sesquiterpenes. For example, an Axinyssa specimen collected by scuba divers at 5–10 m depth off the coast of Pingtung, Taiwan (April 2012) yielded five such sesquiterpenes, including two newly described compounds (axinysalines A and B), and additional previously known analogues.
