The available specimen imagery for Axinella sinoxea shows a sponge with a branching growth form. The overall appearance is of a yellowish to pale orange encrusting/erect network of branches rather than a massive single lump.
GBIF lists Axinella sinoxea as an accepted species name, authored as Alvarez & Hooper, 2009.[2]
In marine sponges, mineral components can be derived from skeletal structures such as hydrated silica (silica spicules) and/or calcium carbonate–based elements. In applied contexts (e.g., production of bioactive glasses), sponges with silica spicules have been discussed as potential mineral sources.
