This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Specimens attributed to Axinella digitiformis show a finger-like (“digitiform”) morphology, consistent with the species epithet, with an overall erect to upright growth form typical of many Axinella sponges. Images across museum-preserved material and citizen-science observations depict the species as a sponge with branching/columnar projections rather than a flat encrusting habit.
GBIF treats Axinella digitiformis Lehnert & van Soest, 1996 as an accepted species name. [2]
