Avenaphora is a genus of prehistoric flies within the family Dolichopodidae.[2] The genus was described by Grimaldi and Cumming in 1999.[3][4]
Based on fossil specimens available in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Avenaphora exhibits characteristics typical of small dipterans preserved in amber.[1] As these are fossilized remains, detailed morphological traits such as wing venation patterns or specific setal arrangements are often obscured by the surrounding matrix or the orientation of the specimen within the amber.[1]
