Automola atomaria is a species of fly within the family Richardiidae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a distinct body form characteristic of its family.[1] The flies typically display a patterned appearance on their wings, which is a common trait among many Richardiidae. The body is generally slender, and the overall coloration includes shades of brown and black, often with metallic or iridescent reflections on the thorax and abdomen. The head is relatively large in proportion to the body, with prominent compound eyes.
Automola atomaria was originally described by the entomologist Wiedemann in 1830, under the name Ortalis atomaria.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Automola.
