Austrosciapus ravenshoensis is a species of long-legged fly within the family Dolichopodidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these flies exhibit the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of the subfamily Sciapodinae.[1] The specimens display metallic coloration on the thorax and abdomen, a common trait among many Austrosciapus species. The wings are generally clear and membranous, with distinct venation patterns characteristic of the genus.[1]
Austrosciapus ravenshoensis was described by Daniel J. Bickel in 1994 as part of his comprehensive review of the Australian Sciapodinae.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted name within the genus Austrosciapus.
