Austrosciapus frauci is a small fly characteristic of the family Dolichopodidae. Observations from specimen imagery reveal a distinct metallic, iridescent coloration on the thorax and abdomen, which typically appears as a vibrant green or blue-green. The body is slender, a common trait among members of the subfamily Sciapodinae. The legs are relatively long and thin, and the wings are clear with visible venation.[1]
Austrosciapus frauci was described by D.J. Bickel in 1994.[2] The species is part of the Australian Sciapodinae fauna, as detailed in the comprehensive review of the subfamily by Bickel.
