This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Austrosaropogon exhibit the characteristic body form of robber flies (family Asilidae).[1] They typically possess an elongated, robust thorax and a slender, tapering abdomen. The head features prominent, large compound eyes, which are typical for predatory dipterans. The legs are generally strong and well-developed, adapted for grasping prey. Due to the nature of the available imagery, finer morphological details such as specific setal patterns or wing venation are not consistently resolvable.[1]
Austrosaropogon is a genus of robber flies within the family Asilidae. It was described by the entomologist G.H. Hardy in 1934.[2]
