Austrolimnophila wilfredlongi exhibits the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of many crane flies in the family Limoniidae. Observations from available imagery indicate a delicate, long-legged appearance with narrow, membranous wings that possess a distinct venation pattern characteristic of the genus.[1] The body coloration is generally muted, often featuring brownish or yellowish tones that provide camouflage in its natural habitat. The antennae are relatively long and filiform, and the thorax is well-developed to support the flight muscles.[1]
Austrolimnophila wilfredlongi was described by the entomologist Charles Paul Alexander in 1952.[2] The species was formally published in the Annals and Magazine of Natural History as part of his work on Oriental-Australasian Tipulidae.
