This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Austrolimnophila nigrocincta is a crane fly characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the family Limoniidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the species possesses long, delicate legs and narrow, membranous wings that extend well beyond the tip of the abdomen.[1] The body exhibits a distinct pattern of coloration, with darker markings often present on the thorax and abdomen, which may contribute to its specific epithet.
Austrolimnophila nigrocincta was originally described by F.W. Edwards in 1923 as Limnophila nigrocincta.[2] The species was published in his work, "A preliminary revision of the crane-flies of New Zealand (Anisopodidae, Tanyderidae, Tipulidae)." It is currently accepted as a valid species within the genus Austrolimnophila.
