Austroleria extensa is a small fly characterized by a generally brownish or yellowish-brown body coloration. Observations from photographic records indicate a slender, elongated body form typical of many heleomyzid flies. The wings are typically clear or slightly tinged, with visible venation patterns characteristic of the family. The thorax and abdomen exhibit a relatively uniform, muted coloration, and the legs are slender.[1]
Austroleria extensa was described by the entomologist David K. McAlpine in 1967.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted name within the family Heleomyzidae.
