This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Austroconops mcmillani exhibits the characteristic morphology of a small biting midge.[1] The specimens display a slender body structure typical of the family Ceratopogonidae, with delicate, multi-segmented antennae and functional wings. The coloration appears generally muted, consistent with many small dipterans, and the overall body plan shows clear bilateral symmetry.[1]
Austroconops mcmillani is a species of biting midge within the family Ceratopogonidae. It was described by Wirth and Lee in 1959, in their work on the Australasian Ceratopogonidae, specifically noting the discovery of a new genus from Western Australia that was observed attacking humans.[2]
