Austrocladius barilochensis is a member of the family Chironomidae. Examination of specimens reveals characteristic features of the group. The adult form exhibits a slender body with long, delicate legs and prominent, plumose antennae, which are typical of many male chironomids. The thorax is robust and dark in coloration. Microscopic examination of the terminalia shows complex, sclerotized structures, including paired gonocoxites and gonostyli, which are diagnostic for identification within the genus.[1]
