This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations of museum specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Australosymmerus naevius exhibits the characteristic morphology of a small dipteran.[1] The specimens display slender, elongated legs and delicate, membranous wings typical of the family Ditomyiidae. The body coloration is generally muted, consistent with many preserved specimens of this group. The head features prominent compound eyes, and the thorax is well-developed to support flight musculature.[1]
Australosymmerus naevius was described by the entomologist D.H. Colless in 1970.[2] The species is formally recognized within the genus Australosymmerus, which belongs to the family Ditomyiidae. The original description was published in the Journal of the Australian Entomological Society.
