Based on observations of preserved specimens, Australosymmerus cornutus exhibits the general morphology characteristic of the family Ditomyiidae.[1] The specimens display a slender, elongated body typical of many nematoceran flies. The wings are well-developed, and the legs are long and thin. Due to the nature of the preserved material, finer morphological details such as specific wing venation patterns or setal arrangements are not clearly resolved in the available imagery.[1]
Australosymmerus cornutus was described by D.H. Colless in 1970.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted name within the genus Australosymmerus.
