This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Australosymmerus aculeatus is a small, delicate fly characteristic of the family Ditomyiidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a slender body form typical of many nematoceran dipterans.[1] The specimens exhibit long, slender legs and prominent, multi-segmented antennae. The wings are generally clear or lightly tinted, with a venation pattern consistent with the genus Australosymmerus.[1]
Australosymmerus aculeatus was originally described by F.W. Edwards in 1921 under the name Centrocnemis aculeatus.[2] The species is currently accepted as a member of the genus Australosymmerus within the family Ditomyiidae.
