This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Australoechus molitor is a species of bee fly (family Bombyliidae) characterized by a robust, densely hairy body, typical of the genus. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the species exhibits a distinct, patterned appearance, with dense, often yellowish or brownish pubescence covering the thorax and abdomen.[1] The wings are typically clear or have subtle infuscation, and the proboscis is elongated, adapted for nectar feeding.[1]
Australoechus molitor was originally described by the entomologist Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann in 1830, under the basionym Bombylius molitor.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Australoechus.
