This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Australoechus hirtus, commonly known as the Golden Beefly, exhibits the characteristic robust, bee-like morphology typical of the family Bombyliidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a densely setose body, covered in fine, hair-like structures that give it a fuzzy appearance.[1] The coloration is predominantly golden-brown, consistent with its common name. The wings are typically clear or lightly patterned and are held in a characteristic position when at rest.[1]
Australoechus hirtus was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1860 as Bombylius hirtus.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Australoechus.
