This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Members of the genus Australoechus are bee flies (family Bombyliidae) that exhibit the characteristic robust, often hairy appearance typical of many bombyliids. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these flies possess a dense covering of setae (hairs) over much of their body, which can vary in color, often presenting in shades of brown, tan, or yellowish-white.[1] The wings are typically clear or have distinct patterns, and the body shape is generally compact and rounded.[1]
The genus Australoechus was described by Greathead in 1995.[2] Like many other members of the Bombyliidae, species within this genus are known to interact with flowering plants. Specifically, records indicate that species such as Australoechus spinibarbus have been observed visiting flowers of plants in the family Asteraceae.[3]
