Based on observations of preserved specimens, Australoconops aurantus exhibits characteristic features of the family Conopidae. The body is slender and elongated, typical of many conopids, which are often mimics of aculeate Hymenoptera. The specimen displays a distinct, patterned abdomen and a well-developed head with prominent eyes.[1]
Australoconops aurantus was described by M. A. Schneider in 2010 as part of a taxonomic revision of Australian Conopidae.[2]
