Based on observations of preserved specimens, Austenmyia amazona is a small robber fly with a body length of approximately 9 mm.[2] The mesonotum is characterized by a yellowish-gray pruinescence marked with three longitudinal brown stripes.[2] The legs are primarily yellow, with distinct dark brown apices on the posterior femora and tibiae.[2] These morphological traits are consistent with specimens documented in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset.[1]
Austenmyia amazona is a species of robber fly within the subfamily Dasypogoninae.[2] It was described by Messias Carrera in 1955, with the type locality identified as Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, based on a specimen collected in February 1896.[2] The species is recognized as an accepted name by the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).[3]
