This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Austalis copiosa is a hoverfly characterized by a robust, bee-like appearance. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that the species typically exhibits a dark, patterned abdomen with distinct transverse bands of yellow or orange, which is a common trait among many Syrphidae species.[1] The thorax is generally dark and may be covered in fine, short hairs. The wings are clear and held in a characteristic position typical of the family.
Austalis copiosa has been documented visiting the flowers of Gaudium parvifolium (Myrtaceae) and has been observed feeding on Acacia terminalis (Fabaceae).[2] These interactions suggest that, like many other members of the family Syrphidae, the adults play a role in pollination.
