This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
In the TreeOfLife-200M image set for Auloplax, specimens are commonly shown as flat, sheet-like or encrusting glass-sponge body forms (rather than tall, vase-shaped forms). Externally, the sponge surface often appears as an irregular, thin layer with a fine skeletal/structural pattern visible at or near the surface, consistent with the light-colored, siliceous skeleton typical of Hexactinellida.
Auloplax is an accepted genus name attributed to Schulze (1904) in GBIF’s taxonomic treatment for the genus.
