This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Members of the genus Aulacigaster are small flies. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that these insects typically exhibit a robust, compact body form characteristic of many acalyptrate Diptera.[1] Visible traits include a distinct head with prominent compound eyes and a thorax that often displays a patterned or textured surface.[1]
The genus Aulacigaster was described by Macquart in 1835.[2] These flies are known to interact with various environments, and some species have been recorded in fruit orchards, where they may be attracted to fermenting plant materials.[3] For example, Aulacigaster falcata has been documented in Türkiye using bait traps containing grape vinegar.[3] Additionally, some species, such as Aulacigaster leucopeza, have been observed visiting flowers of plants in the family Sapindaceae.[4]
