This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Atypophthalmus inustus is a crane fly characterized by a slender, elongated body typical of the family Limoniidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a delicate, brownish-yellow coloration across the thorax and abdomen. The wings are long and narrow, featuring a distinct, patterned venation with subtle, darker spots or clouds, particularly along the costal margin. The legs are notably long and thin, which is a diagnostic feature for many limoniids. The head is relatively small, with prominent, dark compound eyes and long, slender antennae.[1]
Atypophthalmus inustus (Meigen, 1818) has been documented in various habitats, including mixed forest environments. In a 2021 survey conducted in the City Park Kolmanka in Prešov, Slovakia, specimens were collected from vegetation in sunny stands within a mixed forest containing species such as Betula, Fagus, Quercus, Picea, Acer, and Pinus.[2] The species is considered uncommon in this specific study area, with individuals recorded in July and August.
