This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Atylotus duplex exhibits typical morphological characteristics of the family Tabanidae.[1] The specimens display a robust, fly-like body structure with prominent compound eyes. The coloration is generally muted, consistent with other members of the genus Atylotus. Due to the limitations of the available imagery, finer diagnostic characters such as specific wing venation patterns or detailed antennal structure are not clearly resolvable.[1]
Atylotus duplex was originally described by the entomologist Francis Walker in 1854, under the basionym Tabanus duplex.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Atylotus.
