Visual Description
Atylotus canarius is a species of horse fly within the family Tabanidae. Observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that individuals of this species exhibit typical tabanid morphology, characterized by a robust body structure. The eyes are prominent and, as is common in the genus Atylotus, are covered with fine, dense hairs. The coloration of the body generally includes shades of brown and grey, providing a degree of camouflage.[1]
Taxonomy and Classification
Atylotus canarius was originally described by Günther Enderlein in 1929 under the basionym Dasystypia canarius. It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Atylotus.[2]
