This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Atylotus bicolor is a species of horse fly. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the adult fly exhibits a robust, typical tabanid body form. The eyes are large and holoptic in males, meeting at the midline, and dichoptic in females. The thorax and abdomen are covered in dense, fine hairs, often giving the insect a somewhat fuzzy or pubescent appearance. The coloration is generally muted, featuring shades of brown, tan, or yellowish-grey, which provides camouflage in its natural environment. The wings are clear or slightly tinted, with characteristic venation typical of the family Tabanidae.[1]
Atylotus bicolor was first described by the entomologist Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann in 1821.[2] It is currently an accepted species within the genus Atylotus.
