Based on observations of preserved specimens, Atylotus albipalpus exhibits typical morphological characteristics of the family Tabanidae. The specimens appear as robust flies with a broad head, characteristic of the genus Atylotus. The eyes are large and holoptic in males, and the antennae are relatively short. The body coloration is generally muted, consistent with many species in this genus, and the wings are clear. Due to the nature of the preserved specimen images, finer details such as specific setal patterns or exact wing venation are difficult to resolve with high precision.[1]
Atylotus albipalpus has been documented in the savanna regions of northern and northwestern Côte d'Ivoire. In a study conducted between 1999 and 2000, the species was found to be present across various biotopes, including savanna, forest, gallery forest, and cattle corrals.[2]
During this survey, A. albipalpus was observed to be present throughout the study period, although it was considered a less abundant species, representing approximately 6.9% of the total tabanid specimens collected.
