This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
The species Atrichopogon edentatus is a member of the family Ceratopogonidae, commonly known as biting midges. Morphological observations from preserved specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset indicate that, like other members of the genus Atrichopogon, these insects exhibit the characteristic small, delicate body form typical of the family.[1] Due to the limitations of the available imagery, finer diagnostic characters such as specific wing venation patterns or antennal structures cannot be resolved.
Atrichopogon edentatus was described by the entomologist Hans Remm in 1972.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Atrichopogon.
