This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Atriadops are characterized by large, prominent compound eyes that occupy a significant portion of the head.[1] The wings exhibit distinct dark, patterned markings, often appearing as bands or spots against a lighter background.[1]
Atriadops is a genus within the family Nemestrinidae, established by Wandolleck in 1897.[2] Research into the species Atriadops macula (Wiedemann, 1824) has provided insights into the habitat preferences of the genus. While historically associated with open areas in the understory, specimens have been recorded in the forest canopy, a stratum characterized by higher temperatures and insolation.[3] Adults of A. macula possess greatly reduced mouthparts, which suggests that they likely do not feed as adults.[3]
