This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Atoniomyia exhibit typical asilid morphology.[1] They possess a robust, elongated body characteristic of robber flies, with a distinct, prominent proboscis adapted for predation. The thorax is well-developed, supporting strong, functional wings, and the abdomen is typically slender and tapering. The legs are equipped with strong bristles, facilitating the capture and handling of prey.[1]
The genus Atoniomyia has been documented in studies of robber fly diversity, including research conducted in tropical deciduous forests in central Mexico.[2] Specimens identified as Atoniomyia sp. have been recorded in the state of Puebla, Mexico, contributing to the known regional biodiversity of the family Asilidae.
