This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Archaeocyathus atlanticus is reported from archaeocyathan bioherm settings in the Forteau Formation of southern Labrador, Canada, and is described as becoming dominant near the top of a bioherm horizon (contrasting with Metaldetes profundus, which is numerically dominant through much of the studied sequence).[2]
The same study frames Archaeocyathus distribution as habitat/zonation-dependent within bioherms and related lagoonal environments, including distinctions involving bioherm structure and the spatial arrangement (e.g., clustered in lagoonal environments vs. more solitary occurrences elsewhere).[2]
Museum-specimen images in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset under this family path depict Archaeocyathus atlanticus as calcified, cup-/bowl-shaped archaeocyath forms (typical of archaeocyaths as fossilized sponges), shown as preserved, sometimes sectioned or mounted specimens photographed for museum documentation.[1]
