This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Atissa pygmaea is a small fly, consistent with the general morphology of the family Ephydridae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a compact body form typical of shore flies.[1] The coloration is generally dark, and the wings are held in a characteristic position over the abdomen. Due to the small size of the specimens, fine morphological details such as specific setal patterns are difficult to resolve in the available imagery.[1]
Atissa pygmaea was originally described by A.H. Haliday in 1833 as Ephydra pygmaea.[2] It is an accepted species within the genus Atissa.
