Atissa litoralis is a small fly characteristic of the family Ephydridae. Observations of preserved specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a compact body form typical of shore flies.[1] The specimens exhibit a dark, sclerotized exoskeleton and distinct, compound eyes positioned laterally on the head.[1]
Atissa litoralis was originally described by F.R. Cole in 1912 as Allotrichoma litoralis.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Atissa.
