Athyroglossa granulosa is a small fly characteristic of the family Ephydridae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, the species exhibits a generally dark, often black or dark brown, body coloration.[1] The body surface appears to have a granular or textured appearance, which is consistent with its specific epithet, granulosa.[1] The wings are typically clear or slightly infuscated, and the overall morphology follows the typical dipteran body plan with distinct head, thorax, and abdomen segments.[1]
Athyroglossa granulosa was originally described by E.T. Cresson, Jr. in 1923 under the basionym Ochtheroidea granulosa.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Athyroglossa.
