This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Members of the genus Athyroglossa are small flies typical of the family Ephydridae. Based on observations of specimens in the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, they generally exhibit a dark, often shiny or metallic-appearing body coloration. The head is characterized by prominent, compound eyes and a distinct facial structure typical of the subfamily Gymnomyzinae. The wings are generally clear or slightly infuscated, with venation patterns consistent with the tribe Gymnomyzini.[1]
The genus Athyroglossa belongs to the subfamily Gymnomyzinae and the tribe Gymnomyzini.[2] Research in Serbia has documented the presence of Athyroglossa glabra and Athyroglossa nudiuscula in habitats such as the Stara Planina Nature Park and the River Timok valley.
