Athrycia cinerea is a species of tachinid fly. Based on observations of museum specimens, the species exhibits the characteristic robust, bristly body form typical of the family Tachinidae.[1] The specimens display a generally greyish coloration, consistent with the specific epithet cinerea. The thorax and abdomen are covered in distinct, dark macrochaetae (bristles), which are prominent features of its external morphology.[1]
Athrycia cinerea was originally described by the entomologist Daniel William Coquillett in 1895 under the name Paraplagia cinerea.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Athrycia.
