This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, members of the genus Athrycia exhibit typical tachinid fly morphology.[1] They are generally robust flies with a bristly appearance, a characteristic feature of the family Tachinidae. The body coloration often includes shades of grey, black, and sometimes brownish tones. The wings are typically clear or slightly smoky, with distinct venation patterns characteristic of the genus. The head features prominent compound eyes and well-developed antennae.
The genus Athrycia has a broad distribution across Europe and Asia, including regions such as Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Russia.[2] Within this genus, Athrycia trepida is a notable species, with records from diverse habitats including mixed deciduous forests and agricultural areas like hazelnut gardens. Like many other tachinids, Athrycia species are parasitoids; for instance, A. trepida is known to parasitize the noctuid moth Orthosia gothica.
