This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, Atherigona bimaculata exhibits characteristic features of the genus Atherigona.[1] While specific diagnostic traits are often subtle, specimens generally display the typical muscid body plan.[1]
Atherigona bimaculata was originally described by Stein in 1910.[2] It is closely related to other species within the genus, such as Atherigona nigrithorax.[3] Morphological comparisons indicate that A. bimaculata can be distinguished from A. nigrithorax by differences in abdominal patterns and the extent of infuscation on the fore femur.[3]
