Based on observations of museum specimens, Asyndetus ammophilus exhibits the characteristic morphology of the family Dolichopodidae. The specimens show a small, slender body typical of the genus Asyndetus. Visible traits include a metallic-toned thorax and abdomen, and well-developed, clear wings with characteristic venation patterns. The legs are relatively long and slender, consistent with the group's general habitus.[1]
Asyndetus ammophilus is a species of fly in the family Dolichopodidae. It was originally described by Hermann Loew in 1869.[2] The species is recognized as one of nine species of the genus Asyndetus occurring in the West Indies.[3] Recent taxonomic reviews of the genus in this region have provided updated diagnostic information, including illustrations and keys to males.[3]
