Asynapta strobi is a gall midge species. Based on photographic documentation, the larvae are characterized by a yellow to orange coloration.[2]
Asynapta strobi is associated with the entomofauna of conifer cones, specifically those of Picea abies (Norway spruce), Larix decidua, and Pinus brutia (Pinaceae).[2][3] The larvae live freely among the cone scales and are considered saprophagous and coprophagous.[2]
The species is univoltine, with hibernation occurring within the cone, followed by pupation in the spring.[2] In studies of Norway spruce cone entomofauna, A. strobi has been recorded across various developmental stages of the cones, including ripening, ripe, and old cones.
Asynapta strobi is widespread across the Palearctic region, including records from Norway, Sweden, and Finland.[2]
