Based on fossil specimens, Astylospongia typically exhibits a rounded, often spherical or subspherical body form. The surface is characterized by a distinct pattern of small, radiating, arcuate canals, which are generally uniform and non-anastomosing.[1],[2]
Astylospongia is a genus of fossil sponges established by Roemer in 1860.[3] It belongs to the family Astylospongiidae, which includes various Ordovician sponge genera. The genus is distinguished from other members of the family, such as Tympanospongia, by its specific excurrent canal system.
