Astomella oldroydi exhibits the characteristic body form of the family Acroceridae, often described as having a humpbacked appearance. Observations of preserved specimens reveal a robust, rounded thorax and a relatively large, globose abdomen. The wings are typically clear or lightly infuscated, with distinct venation patterns characteristic of the genus. The head is small, often dominated by large compound eyes that may meet or nearly meet dorsally in some individuals.[1]
Astomella oldroydi was described by E.I. Schlinger in 1959. The description was published in the Annals of the Entomological Society of America as part of a review of the genus Rhysogaster and other Acroceridae.[2]
