This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Astochia virgatipes is a member of the robber fly family (Asilidae). Based on observations from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset, individuals exhibit the characteristic slender, elongated body form typical of many asilids.[1] The legs are notably long and slender, often appearing with distinct coloration or patterns that contribute to the species' identification. The thorax and abdomen show a structured, often elongated appearance, consistent with the predatory nature of the genus.[1]
Astochia virgatipes was originally described by D.W. Coquillett in 1898 as Asilus virgatipes, based on specimens from Japan.[2] It is currently recognized as an accepted species within the genus Astochia. Taxonomic treatments for this species are documented in scientific literature, including records available through the Plazi TreatmentBank.[3]
