This page represents the following TreeOfLife-200M taxonomic path.[1]
Asteia mauiensis is a small fly, consistent with the general morphology of the family Asteiidae. Observations of museum specimens from the TreeOfLife-200M dataset reveal a delicate, slender body structure typical of acalyptrate flies.[1] The specimens exhibit a light-colored, often yellowish or brownish, cuticle. Key visible features include relatively large, prominent compound eyes and a pair of wings that, when at rest, are held flat over the abdomen, characteristic of the genus Asteia.[1]
Asteia mauiensis was described by Hardy and Delfinado in 1980.[2] It is recognized as an accepted species within the genus Asteia.
