Asteia apicalis is a small fly characteristic of the family Asteiidae. Based on examination of preserved specimens, the species exhibits a slender body form typical of the genus. The head is relatively large in proportion to the thorax, with prominent compound eyes. The wings are clear and often held flat over the abdomen when at rest. The body coloration is generally pale to yellowish, with darker markings on the thorax and abdomen, consistent with the morphology observed in museum specimens.[1]
Asteia apicalis has been documented interacting with various substrates and organisms. Records indicate associations with dead Koa branches and phylodes. Additionally, it has been noted in association with the genus Suttonia (Fungi).[2]
